While approaching architecture as a totality of curated ideas and moments, he continues to create projects in a vast spectrum of scales including museums to installations. The works of Derinboğaz present a merging of new age technologies with spacial experiences. The design studios led by Derinboğaz in the Istanbul Technical University, focuses on the relationship between vertical settlements, contextual authenticity and new media-architecture.
With three of his projects joining the Arkiv Annual Architectural Selection in 2011, Derinboğaz later received the Arkitera Young Architect Special Award the same year. In 2013, Derinboğaz became a finalist at the YAP Istanbul Modern, co-organized with Moma PS1, with his proposal titled ‘Haze’. ‘Augmented Structures’, the first large scale public space project, merging new media technologies and digital production in collaboration with Refik Anadol received the 2015 Architizer A + Award, organized by Architizer.
With his project titled ‘Modalities of the Spontaneous’, which based its foundations on the current city planning of Istanbul, the architect represented the Turkish Pavilion in the 14th Venice Architecture Biennial. Having been awarded the International Plan Award within the Innovative Architecture category in 2016, Derinboğaz was also chosen by The German Design Council in 2017 for the German Design Award. Future projects of Alper Derinboğaz include the opening of the Istanbul City Museum, designed by Derinboğaz and curated by Luca Molinari.
